Intergraph TANK 2012 Version 4.0 is now available

The Intergraph TANK 2012 version 4.0 is now available. Below is a summary of the main features of this release.

Main enhancements of TANK 2012 version 4.0:

• TANK 2012 was updated to the latest API Code, 11th Edition, Addendum 3.
• User defined Wind pressure versus Elevation in lieu of the built in API (ASCE-7) Wind load method. 
• Anchor Chair calculations have been added that include formulas and substitutions
• The user interface has also been updated. 
• The output processor has also been updated and some new features added. 
• The TANK User's Guide has been re-organized to include additional task-oriented topics and enhanced information. 
• A separate Installation Guide is now available that include troubleshooting topics. Previously the installation instructions were included as part of the TANK User's Guide. You can access the Installation Guide in .pdf format from the TANK Installation splash screen as well as from the TANK Main menu Help item. Click On-line Documentation.

Social Media Star contest was part of the CAU2011. The competition started on Monday, September 19th and ended on Friday, September 23. The competition participants were sharing their conference feedback on the Intergraph CAS Social Media channels: Facebook and Twitter.

Announcing new Support Organization at Intergraph CAS

We are pleased to outline some positive changes that are being made in the delivery of technical support, beginning on September 8, 2011.  Personally, I am enthusiastic about these changes as I know that they will allow us to continue providing you with the high quality technical support that you have come to expect.

We have done several things to enhance our support capabilities and while there will no doubt be some minor growing pains as we move forward, I am confident that this new arrangement will ultimately benefit all.

First, we have formed a dedicated support team for all of the Intergraph CAS product line.  The core members of this team will be Support Engineers who will be focused solely on customer support.  We believe that this approach will result in better resolution times for your questions and issues.  We are also in the process of expanding this team, adding experienced personnel to the existing staff, so you will be hearing from some new people over the next few months.

In addition, we have recognized that it is critical that we become more structured in how we log and track your support questions.  By doing this, we will be better able to evaluate your ideas for enhancements, ensure that your queries are being answered in a timely fashion, and better evaluate when we need to add staff or modify our processes.  This will also result in improved visibility on the status of your questions or requests than ever before.

In order to implement these changes we will require your input at a simple level.  This will not involve a large time investment and, as already mentioned, it will be to your benefit in terms of quality of support and speed of resolutions.

Gary Carson, Equamark Inc., USA, describes the important role that oil storage tank standards play in tank design and our environmental safety.

Steel aboveground storage tanks are a key link in the worldwide distribution of energy, buffering the cyclical needs of our society. Because of the need for these tanks to be close to populated regions any loss in the integrity of these units can cause catastrophic damage. There are obviously some natural disasters that cannot be designed for, such as the recent tsunami off the cost of Japan, but designing and building to strict standards can make for a safer, and therefore easier, coexistence between facilities and the communities they serve.

This article also touches on what happens when things go wrong and the causes of these, mostly avoidable, disasters, and how software like Intergraph^® TANK^TM help make aboveground storage tanks safer.
