The 2009 COADE User Conference kicked off yesterday with a great keynote by COADE's President and CEO, Thomas J. Van Laan. But this keynote was one with a difference, not only did Tom show very few slides, with minimum animations (no, no that was not the big change :-), he enlisted the help of COADE's John Brinlee, Sales Development Manager, COADE Plant Design Solutions and Chris Schiller, Technical Sales, COADE Plant Engineering Solutions.
Together they took only 20 minutes to demonstrate the depth of integration between COADE's plant design and engineering solutions.

Presentation Synopsis
Attendee quote:
'I did not know it was possible for COADE, or any other providers' solutions, to do that'
So what did they see? Tom Van Laan's team gave themselves only 20 minutes to show how COADE's solutions have been designed to seamlessly work together.
- It started with John Brinlee firing up a model in CADWorx Plant Professional and adding some piping and selecting a line for stress analysis and sending it for stress analysis.
- At that point Tom Van Laan, taking the part of the stress engineer, opened the native CAESAR II file that was created by CADWorx Plant Professional for a quick review and ran the analysis in CAESAR II.
- The line failed (duh!) and Tom inserted an expansion loop and support using the new Loop Wizard in CAESAR II. But to make sure that it would fit into the design he pulled in the CADWorx piping model into the CAESAR II session.
- Once done the model was sent back to John where he made some minor adjustments to suit the design and it was sent back to CAESAR II for final analysis.
- When all was OK, John produced the fabrication isometrics using ISOGEN.
- Over on the vessel side...Chris took the model of the exchanger in the CADworx model that was created using CADWorx Equipment and performed vessel analysis in PV Elite. What to you know? the exchanger failed (duh!! - you can't make this stuff up :-). When the analysis was run Chris accepted the recommendation of placing a stiffening ring on the exchanger's shell side.
- The changes were saved and Chris fired up PV Fabricator to produce Vessel fabrication drawings with BOMs and details.
- Back to CADWorx Plant where John refreshed the model which now reflected the exchanger changes.
- To finish John fired up CADWorx Design Review for model walkthrough and review.
They had 35 seconds to spare...
We will have a video up of the presentation soon, so watch this space...
I will be attending some of the classes on Wednesday, so will post some class feedback then.
